Beginner's guide to Pokopia

A practical starter guide for new Pokémon Pokopia players: what to focus on first, which materials to keep, and how to use Pokopia Companion to plan your builds from day one.
Pokémon Pokopia drops you on an island with a lot of empty space and around three Pokémon to start with. It can feel overwhelming. Here is the short version of what to focus on early.
Talk to every Pokémon you see
Every Pokémon on your island wants something, and they will tell you exactly what it is if you talk to them. Check in regularly. Their comfort level goes up when you meet their needs, and a comfortable Pokémon is more active, brings you more gifts, and contributes their specialty skill more often.
Use the Roommates tab in Pokopia Companion to find the best housemates for each Pokémon before you build. Compatible roommates boost comfort for everyone in the house. Incompatible ones drag it down.
Focus on one area at a time
You will unlock multiple areas early on: Withered Wasteland, then Bleak Beach and Rocky Ridges. Do not spread yourself thin across all of them. Pick one area and raise its Environment Level to 5 before moving on. Each area unlocks story events and crafting recipes you need for the next one, so pushing through in order is faster than splitting your attention.
Materials worth hoarding
A few resources show up in almost every recipe. Grab them whenever you pass:
- Wood and stone — the base of nearly every build
- Berries — used in food and crafting
- Cloth and fiber — needed for soft furniture and decoration kits
Everything else, gather as you need it.
Pin your kits
Once you start building seriously, pin the kits you are working on from the Build Kits screen in Pokopia Companion. The Shopping List then shows you everything those kits still need in one place, so you can do one focused gathering trip instead of checking each kit separately.
Do restoration requests first
Not all requests move the needle equally. Build and restoration requests raise your Environment Level directly. Fetch quests give friendship and items but do not touch the score. When your request list is full and your time is limited, knock out the build jobs first.
Do not rush the story
The main quests move things forward, but Pokopia rewards exploration more than speed. Take the long route home, visit Pokémon that are not quest-relevant, and let the island settle. Some of the best moments in the game happen when you are not trying to complete anything.
