Cloud Island is the online multiplayer side of Pokémon Pokopia. It is not DLC. It ships with the base game and gives you a second, separate world you can build on with friends.

This guide covers what Cloud Island is, how to get there, what makes it different, and how Pokopia Companion helps you track it alongside your main save.

How to unlock Cloud Island

You need three things:

1. Reach Environment Level 2 in the main game (this unlocks Link Play).
2. Complete the Withered Wasteland storyline and arrive at Bleak Beach.
3. A Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

Once unlocked, walk to any Pokemon Center PC and choose Link Play > Play on a Cloud Island > Create. You can only host one Cloud Island at a time. Friends join using your Link Code.

What is different on Cloud Island

Cloud Island looks like the main game but runs on different rules.

Separate inventory. You start from zero. Items from your main game cannot be brought in, and Cloud Island items stay on the island.

Life Coins carry over. Currency is shared between both modes, so spending on one affects the other.

Recipes transfer permanently. Any recipe you learn on a Cloud Island (yours or a friend's) gets added to your main save forever. This is the biggest reason to visit other players' islands early.

All terrain types from the start. You have access to every biome and material type regardless of where you are in the main story.

Separate Environment Level. Cloud Island has its own progression, its own shop (with a different catalog across 10 levels), and its own Mysterious Slate board for habitat building.

Collaborative building. Friends can modify your island even when you are offline. They can leave gifts, water crops, and build alongside you.

Other things worth knowing

• Virtual Mode: Buy the Mysterious Goggles (available after Environment Level 3 on Withered Wasteland) to visit other islands in read-only spectator mode. You can take photos and talk to Pokemon but cannot modify anything. This is also how you visit official developer islands.
• 3D Printer trick: Photograph an item on someone else's island and use the 3D Printer at a Pokemon Center to recreate it in your own world.
• Dream Islands work here too: If you have Drifloon and Dream Islands unlocked in your main game, the same mechanic works on Cloud Island for gathering extra resources.
• Developer islands: The Pokemon Company releases themed islands with special codes. Check community forums for the latest codes.

How Pokopia Companion tracks Cloud Island

Pokopia Companion has a dedicated save-slot toggle so you can track your main game and your Cloud Island progress separately. You will find it at the top of the sidebar (desktop) or in the navigation menu (mobile). It looks like two pills: "Main game" and "Cloud Island."

When you switch to Cloud Island mode:

• The accent color changes from red to blue so you always know which save you are looking at.
• Your Habitat Dex check marks, Pokedex catches, Build Queue, Shopping List, and To-do list all switch to the Cloud Island versions.
• Everything is saved independently. Checking off a habitat on Cloud Island does not affect your main game progress.
• If you sign in, both saves sync to the cloud. You can switch between them on any device.

This means you can plan your Cloud Island builds the same way you plan your main game: add habitats to the Build Queue, let the Shopping List calculate what you need to gather, and check things off as you go.
