Withered Wasteland: your first area explained

A breakdown of Pokopia's starting area, covering its three zones, how Environment Level works, the Slowpoke story request, and tips to make the most of it before moving on.

What is the Withered Wasteland?

The Withered Wasteland is the first area you explore in Pokémon Pokopia. It sits on the ruins of Fuchsia City, and the name fits. The land is dry, the trees are bare, and the soil looks like it gave up a long time ago. Your job as a Trainer is to bring it back to life.

The area has three zones. The Central Clearing is where you start. To the west, the Western Ridge has rocky terrain and mineral deposits you will need for crafting. To the east, the Eastern Grove is full of dead trees and overgrown bushes that hint at a forest waiting to return.

Raising Environment Level

Every area in Pokopia has an Environment Level. The Wasteland starts at 0. You raise it by placing habitats, attracting Pokémon, and completing Important Requests. Hit Environment Level 5 and the area is cleared. That unlocks the gates to Rocky Ridges (northwest), Bleak Beach (northeast), and Sparkling Skylands (north).

The Slowpoke request

The main story goal in the Wasteland is helping Slowpoke. Its yawn needs to reach 100 points, which happens when the area's humidity is high enough to trigger rainfall.

Build a Seaside Tall Grass habitat to make it happen. Place four grass patches next to the ocean at the beach in the Eastern Grove. Once humidity climbs, rain falls and frees Onix.

Do not skip this quest. It teaches you how humidity and weather connect to habitat placement, and that system runs through every area in the game.

Tips before you move on

Do not rush out the moment the gates unlock. The Wasteland introduces every core mechanic: habitat placement, time of day cycles, weather triggers, and Trainer Rank requirements. Understand them here and the later areas feel natural.

Check the Habitat Dex for Pokémon you have not attracted yet. Some need specific times of day or a rain event. A few rare ones only appear during storms, so triggering rainfall is worth more than just the story.
